Nature thrives in all sorts of unexpected places, especially in urban spaces where flowers, plants, herbs, mosses, lichen and trees can be found for all to enjoy.
A car park graced with red brick walls;
With climbing Nasturtiums so bright and bold.
Wide coloured funnels, sweet nectar for bees,
Delicious to eat with peppery flowers and leaves.
The tiniest garden on an old churchyard wall;
Minute little Moss flowers on cute tiny stems;
Cushions of Lichen caress the old stone;
For our tiniest creatures, a place to call home.
Wherever there is industry, Nature finds a way;
To emerge as brisk as ever, everywhere, as bright as day;
From cracks between the pavement slabs, from broken cracks and holes;
Mother Nature is always welcome, it's her home too after all.
Wherever there are ancient walls and old tin roofs;
Wherever there are doorways, gateways and busy roads;
Wherever man has tried to weed, Nature flourishes ever more;
Filling everywhere with life for urban dwellers to enjoy.
Four petalled Poppies, in bright Magenta Red;
Climb tall against the wall from their soily beds;
Tissue-paper flowers poised on solitary stems;
A soothing sight for eyes to witness, time and time again.
Walking in the park near the railway station;
I noticed healthy Lichen growing on the tree branches;
I paused to take a breath and said 'thank you' out loud,
Because wherever there is Lichen, the air is pure beneath the clouds.
As the trees line the roadways, leaves drift down beneath;
Autumn falling on the city as nights are drawing in;
Some scatter into corners, some lay flat on pebbled stones;
Adding colour, shape and beauty to the cityscape called home.
At the edge of town on the railway line;
A patchwork wonder of gardening delight;
WIth flowers, fruits and seedlings, vegetables and herbs;
An ambiance of calm enfolds this pleasant, peaceful world.
In the middle of the Midlands, along the old canal;
A water world of calm and peace is there to be found;
With towpaths joining towns to fields out in the countryside;
As Ducks paddle swiftly and Swans gently glide.
